POSITION TITLE: Operations Technician
DEPARTMENT: Operations Department
REPORTS TO: Operations Superintendent
SALARY STATUS: Non-Exempt - Hourly/ Full-Time

GENERAL FUNCTION

The incumbent performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in maintenance work, and operates equipment in the construction, operation, repair, maintenance, and replacement of City Street, curb, sidewalk, building, park, and storm drainage facilities. Incumbent also performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled tasks in garbage and waste management, fleet vehicle maintenance, and is an integral part of the team. May be subject to overtime hours or an on-call schedule.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Incumbent will be a face of the City and may interact with City residents, visitors, and other members of the public. Incumbent will serve as an integral part of a team at the front for operations in maintaining the following public facilities and equipment. Incumbent will be expected to be able to access computer systems to complete reports and enter data as required. This position will interact with the public and a can-do, positive team player is necessary for this position.

STREET OPERATIONS

Street operations include street maintenance and repair, curb and gutter maintenance and repair, sidewalk maintenance and repair. Maintenance operations include, but are not limited to; snow and ice removal, street sweeping and removal of street litter, and other duties related to the upkeep of public street and sidewalks.

STORM SEWER AND FLOOD MITIGATION

Storm and flood mitigations systems include, maintaining storm sewers, storm ditches, pump stations, curb and gutter outlets and culverts. Maintenance may also include monitoring/ mapping the storm system and to enter mapping data into geographic information systems software. Serves as back up to the Operations Superintendent to tum on and maintain pumping facilities when necessary.

WASTE MANAGEMENT

Waste Management services include the collection and dispose of waste items, refuse, recycling, compost, and other materials that may be collected in the waste management services. Services may also include the coordination and promotion of waste management services.

PARK AND GREENSPACE MAINTENANCE

Park and greenspace maintenance includes the care for greenspace in parks, public rights of way, and on other municipal property as directed.

Assist the Operations Superintendent on repair, maintenance, planning, and inspection of municipal buildings, shelters, and other structures.
Assist in the repair and maintenance of fleet vehicles and equipment utilized within the department and assists the Operations Superintendent in identifying a replacement/maintenance plan.

SPECIAL PROJECTS

Incumbent Serves as a part of team and may be expected to lead special projects as assigned by the Operations Superintendent.

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/CERTIFICATIONS REQUIRED

• High School Diploma or GED
• Valid Wisconsin Driver's License
• CDL or ability to obtain one within the first 6 months
• First Aid and CPR certified or within the first 6 months

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work may exist under mildly uncomfortable conditions where exposure to heat, cold, wet, dust and loud noise may cause discomfort. Wearing regular personal protective equipment and attending scheduled safety training is mandatory.
Regular job duties will expose incumbent to outside working environments, operation of heavy machinery, trench work, and lifting up to 75 lbs.
